Introducing

Lou Anne Williams

Founder

Lou Anne (Bunner) Williams was born and raised in Jackson, MS. She attended Hinds Community College and Mississippi State University where she earned a BS in Secondary Education in 1976. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Steve Williams, and they had 2 children. For the next 16 years she taught all levels of chemistry, physics and biology in public high schools in Mississippi and Georgia. She then earned a Masters of Combined Science degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, in 1992 with a chemistry major and a physics minor. After graduation from Mississippi College, she became an instructor at Hinds Community College in central Mississippi where she taught General Chemistry, Principles of Chemistry (introductory chemistry), General Physics 1, Physical Science Survey, and Introduction to Organic and Biochemistry with their accompanying labs for the next 25 years.

In addition to her teaching career, she served as department chair at the high schools at which she taught as well as at the Rankin Campus of Hinds Community College plus served as the Physical Sciences Curriculum Coordinator for the Hinds Community College District.  She began teaching online classes for Hinds Community College through Mississippi Virtual Community College in 1998 and has continued to do so after her retirement. She completed the Walden Institute Online Instructor Certification Program early in her online teaching career and has also had training in both Blackboard and Canvas Learning Management Systems, both of which she has used for her online courses. During her teaching career, Lou Anne was a member of numerous professional organizations and earned several awards including the Silver Apple Award from Jackson Public Schools, Phi Theta Kappa Teacher of the Year for the Rankin Campus of Hinds Community College, and the LifeStar Award for Hinds Community College. After losing her husband and then retiring, she moved to Melbourne, FL, in 2017 to be near family.

She also founded Coast Scientific, LLC, in 2017 to provide custom lab kits for college level online lab classes. She enjoys the beach and watching the variety of wildlife in the area, spending time with her family, volunteering at her grandsons’ elementary school, watching rocket launches at Cape Canaveral, visiting amusement parks, traveling, exercising, reading, sewing, and working with students in her online classes.
